A Chinese young man street show: swallow of live snake

A young man had this street show in Yueyang city (岳阳), Hunan Province on Feb. 21, 2010. His name is Yan Wu (颜五), age 23. He took out a 60cm long, not so poison snake and left it on table. Then, he had his two arms fasten on back. He tried to provoke the snake so that it becomes more active. All in a sudden, he snapped the head of the snake. After a few seconds, the head is smashed to pieces and he swallowed all of them. According to him, the snake was fresh, tasty but a little fishy.

This practice is not encouraged because snakes are protected animals. In addition, it could be dangerous practice itself. There is no report of government interfering of this practice however.

During the lunar new year 2010, some penquins at Dalian Sun Asia dressed in Tangzhuang (唐装). I wonder whether the staffs at this theme park wanted to say “No global warming”?

Father of Chinese Space Program Qian Xuesen Died

The news that Qian Xuesen died on October 31 created a shock wave in China, but the wave didn’t seem to reach the other end of the Pacific ocean. If one search Google news on Qian Xuesen, there are only 228 results (as of Nov 2, 2009). But if one search 钱学森, there are 5,389 results. One of them was from LA Time: “Qian Xuesen dies at 98; rocket scientist helped establish Jet Propulsion Laboratory. NASA didn’t say a word. Cal Tech had few. I asked a few space engineers. None of them know about the news. One CFD expert said to me that he never saw Qian’s photo.


24th Chinese Mathematical Olympiad (Continued)

The 24th Chinese Mathematical Olympiad (CMO) was held in Hainan province in January 2009. There are total 184 high school students from all over China participated in this contest. There are 11 students got all points (126 points), 46 students received gold medal (for score higher than or equal to 93 points, 75 students received silver medal (for score higher than or equal to 51 points, 77 students received bronze medal (for score higher than or equal to 6 points).

In a previous post, I translated the questions in the test during the first day. Here are the question during the second day on January 10, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
