Does an advertising company have to use cookies?

According to wired news, Specificmedia, one of the net’s largest ad-serving and tracking companies, has been hit with a federal lawsuit accusing the company of violating computer intrusion laws by secretly re-creating cookies deleted by users.

What this story tells us is two-folded: 1, online users do not like to be tracked by others, and 2, online advertising companies do like to track users. I fully understand why advertising companies want to use cookies, but as a user, I surely do not want to be tracked.

Does an advertising company have to use cookies? The answer is “No”. For example, I know an advertising company that does not use cookies at all – Younexus. This company provides a clean and safe advertising solution for software. I think Younexus can succeed.
